We’ll arrange for dinner at one of the pillars of Alentejo’s gastronomic scene, frequented by Portugal’s former President Soares.
Day 2: Evora
Discover the legacy of ancient Evora, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Wander through the ancient Roman temple, which dates to the 2nd century The town is a living history museum where every corner has its story.
Day 3: Castelo de Vide, Belmonte
Highlights of your day include: visit to the oldest synagogue in all of Portugal and Spain and the stunning new Jewish museum in Belmonte. We will arrange for you to a private meeting with a member of the Jewish community, who will discuss their history and renaissance.
Day 4: Gouveia, Trancosa
Highlights of your day include: the small but lovely Archaeological Museum, known for its ancient Hebrew inscription on one of the walls. Visit the former home of Aristides de Sousa Mendes, who saved the lives of hundreds of Jews during World War II.
Day 5: Lisbon
Enjoy your morning ride to Lisbon.
This afternoon, explore the nooks and crannies of Lisbon’s wildly diverse neighborhoods, from 19th century pharmacies to fado bars, to antique stores full to the brim with goodies.
Day 6: Sintra
Highlights of your day include: the stately homes of Portuguese nobility of old, Palacio da Pena and Palacio da Vila.
Tonight, back in Lisbon, visit the Shaare Tikva, Lisbon’s synagogue. The congregation is more than 100 years old.
Day 7: Lisbon
Enjoy a day at leisure in Lisbon.
We suggest you stop into one of Lisbon’s many bakeries and try pasteis de Belem, cream-filled pastries named for their neighborhood.
